Oakland International (OAK) is the East Bay's airport. Two terminals (Terminal 1 and Terminal 2), about half the gate count of SFO, and a curbside that does not back up the way SFO's does on a busy Sunday evening. Southwest is the dominant carrier; JetBlue, Hawaiian, Alaska, Spirit, and Frontier also operate from OAK. No major international carriers (SFO handles those).
For East Bay clients, OAK is usually the closer choice. Oakland to OAK is 12 minutes off-peak. Berkeley to OAK is 18 minutes. Walnut Creek to OAK is 25 minutes. For SF clients, the Bay Bridge adds 15-25 minutes versus the SFO drive south, but OAK's terminal speed often makes up the difference. For Marin clients, SFO is faster; OAK only makes sense if your airline only flies from OAK.

How we run OAK pickups.
Terminal 1
Houses Southwest Airlines, Allegiant, Hawaiian, Spirit, and a few smaller carriers. Larger of the two terminals. Curbside pickup on Lower Level, Door 4 or 5 depending on which gate you arrive at.
Terminal 2
Alaska, JetBlue, and a few others. Smaller, newer terminal. Curbside pickup on Lower Level. The walk from gate to curb is shorter than Terminal 1.
Traffic windows
Bay Bridge eastbound backs up Tuesday through Thursday 4:30-7:00 PM (matters for SF clients heading to OAK). The 880 north past Oakland Coliseum is reliably backed up Friday 3:00-6:00 PM. We plan around both.
Departures
For OAK departures, arrival at curbside 90 minutes before domestic flights is typically enough. OAK's TSA queue is shorter than SFO's. Pickup time is planned backward from your target curb-arrival.
